Peruvian music honors legacies of Alicia Maguiña and Cecilia Bracamonte

Peruvian music celebrates the legacies of two iconic figures through upcoming performances.

A tribute titled ‘Alicia, siempre Alicia – Edición 2026’ will take place on September 20 at the Teatro Principal Manuel A. Segura. The event honors composer and researcher Alicia Maguiña, whose musical work was declared National Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture in July 2026. The show, directed by Santiago Coco Linares, will feature various national singers performing Maguiña’s repertoire, which spans genres such as marinera, vals, and huayno.

Additionally, singer Cecilia Bracamonte will begin her farewell from large-scale stages with the concert ‘Gracias por Tanto’ on November 8 at the Gran Teatro Nacional. Marking 64 years of career, the production will feature new arrangements and a repertoire that extends beyond criollo music to reflect her diverse musical journey. Bracamonte stated she is choosing this moment to transition away from large productions while her voice remains intact.
