Peruvian Navy commissions BAP Talara to boost emergency logistics

On 7 August 2026 the Peruvian Navy launched the BAP Talara, a new auxiliary logistic vessel built at the SIMA Perú shipyard in Callao. The 58.9‑metre ship, 13.2 metres wide and displacing 1,646 tonnes, can travel up to 10 knots and carries a helicopter deck, 21 containers, 211 m³ of fresh water, 223 m³ of fuel and military vehicles, enabling rapid transport of humanitarian aid and heavy equipment.

The vessel is part of the “Expansion of maritime logistic supply capacity on the Peruvian coast” investment project, which also includes the forthcoming BAP Chimbote. Defence Minister Rafael Belaunde Llosa highlighted the ship’s role in strengthening the state’s response to complex scenarios, especially the El Niño phenomenon. Construction involved cooperation and technology transfer with Hyundai Heavy Industries.
