Peruvian prosecutors investigate Ministry of Culture hiring practices
The Second Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Crimes of Corruption of Officials has conducted urgent investigations at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture and the National Library of Peru (BNP). The probe aims to collect documentation regarding the hiring of Sofía Aguayo Morales as General Manager of the BNP and the subsequent hiring of her mother, Lourdes Beatriz Morales Morote, within the ministerial office.
The investigation follows reports that both women are former members of the Christian People's Party (PPC) and have political ties to the Minister of Culture, Alberto Beingolea. Records indicate that Aguayo Morales assumed her position at the BNP on August 6, shortly after a personal visit to Minister Beingolea's office. Her professional background is reportedly in the real estate sector rather than library management. Additionally, Aguayo Morales is currently under investigation for alleged crimes of improper passive bribery and incompatible negotiation related to her previous role at the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU).
