Peruvian prosecutors investigate National Board of Justice officials for bribery
The Peruvian Public Ministry is investigating a network of officials within the National Board of Justice (JNJ) for allegedly demanding bribes from a judge to maintain his position.
According to investigators, the extortion targeted Edwin Romel Béjar Rojas, a superior judge in the Cusco judicial district who was recognized by the UN as the first visually impaired judge in Latin America. The scheme reportedly involved officials from the Selection and Appointment Directorate (DSN) demanding payments via digital transfers to ensure his appointment remained valid.
The investigation involves allegations that officials, including the director of the DSN, threatened to initiate nullity proceedings against the judge by claiming document falsification if the payments were not made. The judge reportedly sought assistance after being pressured to provide further funds under the threat of professional repercussions.
