Peruvian Senator calls for investigation into threats against Keiko Fujimori
Senator Fernando Rospigliosi, president of the Senate Intelligence Commission, has called for immediate investigations by the National Police and the Public Ministry into alleged threats against President Keiko Fujimori. Rospigliosi emphasized that expressions targeting the president’s integrity should not be minimized, stating, “It is not a game to start plotting the assassination of the President of the Republic.” He urged authorities to act swiftly to prevent such matters from being delayed or diluted.
Concurrently, the administration faces political scrutiny following comments made by President Fujimori in Ica regarding the Chamber of Deputies' delays in reviewing government requests for special powers. Critics and opposition members have interpreted her remarks as a sign of waning “democratic patience,” leading to debates regarding the potential for legislative tension or the closure of the lower house.
