Peruvian singer Thamara Gómez attacked with explosive device in extortion case

On August 2, 2026, an explosive device was detonated outside the home of singer Thamara Gómez in Sullana, Piura, Peru. Unknown assailants left threatening messages and demanded a payment of 50,000 soles to stop further attacks on her and her family. Security cameras captured the incident and the footage was handed to the authorities.

Gómez filed a police report and asked for protective measures while the investigation continues. The band Las Estrellas de la Cumbia issued a statement supporting her, saying, "Confiamos en las autoridades y asimismo en nuestra recién electa Presidenta de la República, Keiko Sofía Fujimori, para que realicen las investigaciones correspondientes…" The incident follows previous threats reported by the singer in 2025.
