Peruvian sol strengthens as US dollar exchange rates fluctuate
The Peruvian sol has shown strength against the US dollar, with exchange rates reflecting variations between official, commercial, and informal markets in mid-August 2026.
In the informal parallel market, the US dollar was quoted at approximately S/3.35 for purchase and S/3.37 for sale. The National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) set official daily reference rates at S/3.358 for buying and S/3.368 for selling.
Major commercial banks in Peru maintained wider spreads and higher rates compared to the informal market. For instance, Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP) listed a purchase rate of S/3.798 and a selling rate of S/3.887. Other major lenders included Interbank, Banco de la Nación, BBVA Peru, and Scotiabank Peru, all showing higher commercial sale prices than the parallel market rates.
