Peruvian students achieve success in mathematics and astronomy competitions

Peruvian students have achieved notable success in both domestic and international academic competitions. The National School Mathematics Olympiad (ONEM), a collaboration between Corporación Aceros Arequipa, the Ministry of Education, and Empresarios por la Educación, reached over 1.7 million students across all 26 regions of Peru. The program, which has a 22-year history, focuses on logical reasoning and problem-solving for secondary school students.

On the international stage, Peruvian students secured three bronze medals at the XIX International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2026) held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The medalists include Jordan Juscamaita, Alexander Valencia, and Rafael Zapata. The competition involved 320 delegates from 66 countries, testing participants in theory, data analysis, and astronomical observation.
