Peruvian Transport Ministry earmarks 25 million soles for employee food cards

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) in Peru allocated more than 25 million soles from the public budget to issue electronic food cards for its staff. Under the scheme, 554 workers covered by decree 276 receive a daily credit of up to 150 soles (about 3,300 soles per month) and an additional 1,900‑sol bonus for each of the two main holidays. A further 59 employees under decree 728 are granted 100 soles per day (2,200 soles monthly) with a similar holiday supplement. Critics note that the allowances far exceed those of other ministries – for example, the Interior Ministry provides 17 soles daily and the Ministry of Economy and Finance 64 soles. Minister Aldo Prieto defended the programme as fulfilling a collective bargaining agreement and said the procurement complied with Law 32069, but experts and procurement lawyers have called for greater budgetary rationality.
