Pervis Estupiñán remains Milan starter despite defensive criticism
AC Milan defender Pervis Estupiñán remains a frequent starter under manager Ruben Amorim despite facing criticism for defensive errors. While Estupiñán has started four of the club's last five league matches, a recent error during a match against Lazio led to his halftime substitution for Diego Moreira.
Analysts suggest Estupiñán is preferred over competitors like Bartesaghi due to his tactical versatility in Amorim's system and his extensive experience playing in both the Premier League and La Liga. Although Bartesaghi has shown higher success rates in crossing, Estupiñán is valued for his ability to engage in one-on-one attacking situations.
Former Milan defender Billy Costacurta has publicly criticized Estupiñán's performance, suggesting the Ecuadorian player should remain on the bench until he improves his man-marking abilities. Amorim has indicated that tactical decisions, including the use of a back four versus a back three, will continue to be adjusted on a match-by-match basis.
