Pesaro nursing home residents face forced relocation

The family of 90-year-old Diana Palena has issued a formal legal notice to the Consorzio Sociale Santa Colomba to contest her forced relocation from the Casa Roverella nursing home in Pesaro. Palena, an oncology patient, had only been residing at the facility since August 12.

The relocation is part of a broader plan to accommodate 27 residents from the Tomasello facility, which is located in an area slated for a new hospital. This move will result in 14 current residents of Casa Roverella being asked to leave. While the initial deadline for relocation was September 30, residents have been granted an additional month to find new accommodations.

Palena’s children, Laura and Paolo Bernardi, have sent the legal notice to the consortium, as well as to the Pesaro Urbino Local Health Authority (Ast) and the Marche Region's health department. They argue the move is inhumane and seek to ensure their mother is placed in a suitable facility. The Consorzio Sociale Santa Colomba stated it is working to assist all guests with an exit path and will not leave anyone without care.
