Italy: Multiple accidents in Cuneo and tribute to Concetta Basile in Cropani

In the Cuneo region of Italy, heavy rainfall led to a series of seven traffic accidents on the afternoon of October 7, 2026. The incidents occurred across various locations, including Bastia Mondovì, the A6 motorway between Marene and Carmagnola, Govone, Barbaresco, Ceva, Casalgrasso, and Sommariva del Bosco. Emergency services, including firefighters from Cuneo, Saluzzo, Alba, Asti, Ceva, Mondovì, and Racconigi, responded to various vehicle rollovers, collisions, and cars running off the road.

In a separate cultural event, the town of Cropani held a ceremony to honor Concetta Basile, the first woman from the village to earn a university degree. A commemorative plaque was unveiled at her birthplace on via Duomo to recognize her 1954 degree in Letters and Philosophy from the University of Rome, where her research focused on the popular traditions of Calabria.
