Pescara health authority reports 31 organ transplants in 2026

The Asl di Pescara has reported that 31 organs have been harvested and used for transplants between January 1 and September 19, 2026. The breakdown of these organs includes 12 kidneys, 10 livers, 6 hearts, 2 lungs, and 1 pancreas.

During this period, there were 15 reports of potential donors. Of these, three cases resulted in opposition to donation, and two potential donors were deemed clinically unsuitable. The health authority released these figures in observance of the National Day of Yes to Donation, promoted by Aido.

The Asl emphasized the complexity of the clinical and organizational processes involved, which require synergy between intensive care, anesthesiology, operating room staff, and transplant coordination. Officials also highlighted the importance of citizens expressing their donation wishes in advance—either through local municipalities, the Asl, Aido, or official health ministry documentation—to alleviate the burden of decision-making from grieving families.
