Pescara meeting addresses irresponsible urban planning

More than 150 people gathered at the Britti polyvalent center in Pescara for a meeting titled ‘On the side of the soil – Cities hostage to irresponsible urban planning’. The event was organized by Radici in Comune and Italia Nostra Pescara.

Paolo Pileri, a professor of urban planning at the Politecnico di Milano, served as the keynote speaker. He argued that soil should not be viewed as empty space awaiting construction, but rather as a living ecosystem and essential environmental infrastructure that regulates water cycles, mitigates temperatures, and preserves biodiversity.

Simona Barba, president of Radici in Comune, criticized the progressive emptying of Pescara’s urban planning and the frequent use of exemptions. Massimo Palladini, president of Italia Nostra Pescara, called for a shift away from ‘self-service urbanism’ toward a vision focused on soil preservation and ecological city equipment.
