Pescara Metropolitan City Proposal Advances in Italian Parliament

Deputy Giulio Sottanelli (Azione) announced that he will formally request the filing of his bill to create a Metropolitan City of Pescara next week in the Constitutional Affairs Committee. The proposal seeks to link the 46 municipalities of the province to coordinate infrastructure, transport, economic development and supra‑municipal services, and is presented as distinct from any merger of Pescara, Montesilvano and Spoltore.

Sottanelli thanked commission chairs Nazario Pagano and Luigi Albore Mascia for their support, noting growing consensus among local mayors, administrators and economic representatives. He urged a swift move to start hearings with regional, provincial and port authorities to build a shared plan for the area.

The initiative aims to provide a governance tool for the wider Adriatic region, positioning Pescara as a coordinated metropolitan entity.
