Pescara Port Canal Gets Environmental Approval for River Mouth Diversion

Regional officials confirmed that the environmental impact assessment for the Pescara port canal project has been completed with a favorable opinion, clearing the way to begin the diversion of the river mouth and related port‑strengthening works. The decision was announced at a technical meeting of the Maritime Direction of Pescara attended by Abruzzo President Marco Marsilio, ARAP President Mirco Carloni, regional assessors, the mayor of Pescara and other port authorities.

The project, which includes the “Pennello di Foce” river‑mouth diversion and a rooting barrier, has been assigned by ARAP to ATI Sales‑Mentucci‑Inmare. About €21.2 million has been earmarked for subsequent sea‑works, while the selection process for a new contractor for the land works is underway. The approval marks a key step toward improving the efficiency and capacity of the Pescara port and the broader Adriatic coastal network.
