Pescara ranks among Italy's most affordable cities for mobility
A report by the SumUp Tourism and Cashless Mobility Observatory reveals significant trends in Italian urban mobility and digital payment adoption between June and August 2026.
Pescara has emerged as one of Italy’s most affordable cities for transportation. It ranks among the top five most cost-effective cities for taxi trips to and from the airport, with an average cost of 20 euros. Additionally, Pescara is the second least expensive city for urban public transport, with an average fare of 1.10 euros, surpassed only by Bari.
In contrast, Messina and Milan recorded the highest average taxi costs at 150 euros and 114 euros, respectively. Regarding digital payments, the province of Lecco saw a massive 83.3% increase in cashless spending within the mobility sector, ranking third in Italy.
Nationally, cashless spending in the mobility sector grew by an average of 17% compared to the same period in 2025. Specifically, smartphone payments using Tap to Pay technology increased by 22% across the country.
