Pest control expert Vicki Hall offers home fly‑deterrent tips

During an appearance on the TV programme This Morning, pest‑control specialist Vicki Hall explained several inexpensive ways to keep flies out of houses. She advised roasting coffee beans in the oven for ten to fifteen minutes, noting that the strong aroma repels flies. Hall also recommended a simple trap using apple cider vinegar mixed with a few drops of washing‑up liquid, which draws flies in and breaks surface tension so they sink.

Additional suggestions included constructing a bottle trap from a recycled two‑litre plastic bottle, sugar, and a homemade funnel, as well as installing custom magnetic fly screens on open windows to allow fresh air while blocking insects.
