Pesticide Victim Compensation Fund receives record claims in 2025
The Pesticide Victim Compensation Fund (FIVP) received 1,044 claims in 2025, marking a record high and a 6.8% increase from previous levels. This surge has forced the fund to utilize its reserves to pay out benefits.
Most claimants are men (92.5%) who were professionally exposed, particularly in polyculture farming, cereal cultivation, and viticulture. Prostate cancer remains the most common condition cited in claims. The fund also recorded 20 cases involving children exposed during the prenatal period. Recent expansions in recognized pathologies include Parkinson's disease and malignant hematopathies.
Total compensation payments reached 25.9 million euros in 2025, a 35.5% increase compared to 2024. Laurent Habert, president of the FIVP management board, noted that while the recognition of pesticide-related illnesses is progressing, regional application rates remain unevenly distributed.
