Rio de Janeiro’s Praça da Bolívia hosts municipal pet adoption fair

On Sunday, 12 July, the Superintendência de Bem‑Estar Animal (Subea) organized a responsible pet‑adoption fair at Praça da Bolívia. The event offered puppies and kittens rescued by public authorities, NGOs and independent protectors for adoption. All animals had undergone thorough veterinary checks, were vermifuged and, for dogs, received a polyvalent vaccine. Free neutering will be scheduled once the animals reach the appropriate age. Attendees must be over 18 and present a photo ID with proof of residence. Subea staff were on‑site to advise the public on responsible ownership, nutrition and daily care.

The initiative aims to place rescued pets in safe homes while promoting population control and animal welfare through mandatory health protocols and later sterilisation.
