Pet adoption initiatives report growth in Ecuador and Colombia

Pet adoption initiatives in Ecuador and Colombia are showing significant results in animal welfare. In Ecuador, Mundo Mágico de la Mascota reported that 219 pets have found homes so far in 2026 through its national adoption drives. The company collaborates with animal protection foundations to facilitate these encounters, requiring interested parties to undergo an interview and complete a registration process to ensure responsible ownership.

In Colombia, specifically in Bogotá, the Instituto Distrital de Protección y Bienestar Animal (IDPYBA) reported 479 dog adoptions in 2025. Recent efforts in August 2026 during ExpoPet resulted in 105 dogs and cats finding new families. Despite these successes, experts note a significant challenge remains, as Bogotá has over 66,000 dogs living on the streets. Veterinarians emphasize that successful adoption requires patience and consistency to help animals adapt to new environments, sounds, and routines.
