Pet burial innovations emerge in Argentina and Spain
New pet burial initiatives are emerging in Argentina and Spain, focusing on environmental sustainability and social demand.
In Villa Mercedes, Argentina, the “Bosque bebé” (Baby Forest) has been established near the municipal animal shelter. This free service allows residents, particularly those in apartments without private yards, to bury pets such as dogs, cats, and rabbits. To promote ecological connection, the program requires participants to plant a tree at the site for every pet buried. Twelve trees have already been planted at the location.
In Catalonia, Spain, the funeral company Áltima has introduced several innovative services at the Roques Blanques Communal Cemetery. These include “Sepultura del Bosque,” a service allowing direct earth burials that comply with sanitary regulations to protect groundwater, and the “Bosque de las Huellas,” a dedicated space for the burial of biodegradable pet urns. Additionally, the company now offers services where pet ashes can be placed alongside the graves of their deceased owners.
