Pet business owner jailed for robbing elderly woman in Tuen Mun

Wong Chung-kwok, a 51-year-old former pet aftercare business owner, has been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison by the High Court for robbing a 77-year-old woman in Tuen Mun.

The incident occurred on January 18, 2025, after the victim withdrew cash from an HSBC branch. Wong followed the woman to her residence in Tsui Ning Garden, used shears to threaten her neck, and forced his way into her home. Once inside, he cut the cables of a CCTV camera to avoid identification. He stole an iPhone 12, cash, and other belongings totaling approximately HK$13,800.

During mitigation, it was revealed that Wong’s actions were driven by severe financial pressure resulting from business debts and failed renovations of his pet aftercare firm. The judge noted the violence of the home invasion and the use of a weapon but took into account his lack of prior criminal record, his genuine remorse, and the fact that all stolen property was recovered by police.
