Pet care: strategies for exercise and mental stimulation

Maintaining an active routine for pets is essential for physical health, weight control, and emotional balance. A daily routine of approximately 30 minutes, distributed through movement, play, and mental stimulation, can provide a complete experience for dogs. Activities can include calm walks, playtime, and mental exercises, though intensity should be adapted to the animal's age, size, and physical condition.

When walking dogs, owners should be mindful of environmental factors such as heat. In warmer regions, it is recommended to walk during the early morning or late afternoon to avoid hot pavement, which can cause discomfort or burns to a dog's paws. Checking the ground temperature by touching it with the back of the hand is a suggested safety measure.

To combat boredom and prevent destructive behaviors like chewing furniture, indoor stimulation is also vital. Various toys can help expend energy and encourage natural behaviors, including balls for chasing, treat-dispensing toys that encourage exploration, hunting toys for cats, chew toys, tunnels, activity mats, and interactive toys. Choosing toys compatible with the pet's size and age is key to effective engagement.
