Pet food market in Poland reaches 4.7 billion PLN value

The pet food market in Poland has reached significant scale, with consumers purchasing over 380,000 tonnes of food for dogs and cats valued at more than 4.7 billion PLN last year. As the market grows, pet owners are increasingly focusing on the quality and origin of ingredients, particularly regarding sustainable fishing practices.

Industry experts note that the pet food sector can influence sustainable fisheries. The use of wild fish in pet food creates demand for certified sources. Products carrying the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) blue label allow consumers to support ocean protection by ensuring ingredients come from biologically sustainable stocks. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), while 36.7% of analyzed fish stocks are overfished, effective management and scientific data are key to maintaining sustainable levels.

To manage rising costs, consumers are utilizing specialized tools like Wywęszone.pl, an independent price comparison service. The platform monitors over 200 zoological stores and more than 700 brands, allowing owners to compare not only the base price of dry and wet food, treats, and supplements but also delivery costs to determine the true total expense of an order.
