Pet-friendly dining trends drive business growth
A study from Toronto Metropolitan University, published in the ‘Journal of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality Research’, highlights the growing economic benefits of pet-friendly dining. Research involving 200 dog owners indicates that customers spend more at establishments that welcome pets and report higher levels of satisfaction and likelihood to recommend the business to others.
Small gestures, such as providing dedicated dog menus, can lead to measurable financial gains for local business owners. This trend reflects a broader societal shift where pets are increasingly viewed as family members, contributing to rising annual expenditures on pet products and specialized experiences.
In Karlsruhe, Germany, the new Café Dana’s is adopting this model. Scheduled to open on October 17 in the Südstadt district, the cafe will offer specialized treats for dogs, including a menu item named after the owner's dog, Blue.
