Pet health warnings issued regarding heatstroke and seasonal temperature risks

Veterinary professionals are warning pet owners about the severe risks of heatstroke in dogs and cats, noting that these animals have a more limited capacity to regulate body temperature compared to humans. Early warning signs include intense panting, apathy, disorientation, excessive salivation, weakness, and restlessness. If left untreated, conditions can escalate to vomiting, neurological changes, or collapse, requiring immediate medical attention.

In response to seasonal temperature fluctuations, the city of São José dos Pinhais in Brazil is running the ‘Aquece Pet 2026’ campaign. The initiative, organized by the Municipal Secretariat of the Environment, collects donations such as blankets, clothing, and beds to support independent protectors, NGOs, and vulnerable families. The campaign aims to protect animals, particularly puppies, seniors, and small-breed pets, from the effects of cold weather.
