Pet hydration tips for summer heat

During the summer months, it is essential to monitor the hydration of pets. Owners are advised to provide multiple bowls of room-temperature water, refreshed at least once daily, in the living areas of the home.

For outdoor access, pets should have access to shaded areas and water bowls kept in the shade. Dogs should be walked during cooler hours, such as early morning or evening, and should always have water available during walks.

Cats consuming dry kibble require more hydration than those eating wet food, which contains 70% to 80% water. Small animals like rodents and rabbits are particularly sensitive to heat; they should have access to water bottles and protection from direct sunlight or drafts. If dehydration is suspected, owners should consult a veterinarian immediately.
