Pet Shop Boys release Alan Turing biographical album

Pet Shop Boys have released their new album, ‘A Man From The Future’, a project exploring the life and legacy of British mathematician and computer science pioneer Alan Turing. Released via Parlophone Records, the work combines electronic music, orchestral arrangements, and spoken word.

The album features narration by actress Juliet Stevenson, adapted from Andrew Hodges’ biography ‘Alan Turing: The Enigma’. The musical compositions, produced alongside Sven Helbig, utilize a blend of synthesizers and strings performed by the Manchester Camerata Octet, with additional contributions from the Manchester Grammar School choir.

Across eight tracks, the album follows Turing’s life chronologically, covering his mathematical interests, his pivotal role in deciphering the Enigma machine during World War II, his contributions to digital computing, and his eventual prosecution for homosexuality. The final track includes a recording of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s 2009 apology for Turing’s treatment and the subsequent posthumous royal pardon granted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2013.
