Pet travel regulations vary in Gibraltar and Peru

Regulations regarding traveling with pets on public and private transport vary significantly between Gibraltar and Peru.

In Gibraltar, the government has clarified that small animals such as dogs, cats, or guinea pigs are permitted on public buses. To comply, pets must remain in an appropriate carrier that the passenger can hold, such as on their lap, without requiring an extra seat. However, bus drivers maintain the discretion to deny entry if specific circumstances arise, such as a passenger having a known allergy.

In Peru, there is no universal legal right for pet owners to use public or private transport, with the exception of service animals or guide dogs. Travel depends entirely on individual company policies. While airlines like LATAM, Sky Airline, and JetSMART have structured requirements involving vaccination records and health certificates, land transport is more restrictive. Many interprovincial bus companies only allow pets in the luggage compartment within a kennel, a practice often discouraged by veterinarians due to stress and temperature concerns.
