Pet travel safety and new airline cabin regulations

Pet owners face various considerations when traveling with animals during the summer season. Biological vulnerabilities in dogs and cats make them susceptible to heatstroke and dehydration, as they rely on respiratory rates rather than skin perspiration to regulate body temperature. High humidity and heat can quickly lead to medical emergencies.

Regarding air travel, regulations are evolving. While many airlines, such as Lufthansa and Condor, typically limit cabin travel to small dogs (often under eight kilograms) in carriers, a European airline has begun allowing larger and heavier dogs to fly in the cabin. Previously, larger breeds were required to travel in the cargo hold. Travelers are advised to check specific breed restrictions, as some airlines prohibit brachycephalic breeds like Pugs due to health risks.
