PETA offers reward after elderly pug abandoned in Selm

The animal rights organization PETA has announced a 1,000 euro reward for information leading to the conviction of individuals responsible for abandoning a critically ill pug in Selm, Germany. The elderly dog, estimated to be between 10 and 15 years old, was discovered on October 20, 2026, inside a cardboard box in a roadside ditch on Werner Straße.

Upon discovery by employees of the state road construction office, the dog was found to be severely neglected, unchipped, and suffering from multiple serious illnesses. Due to its deteriorating condition, the animal had to be euthanized.

PETA intends to file a criminal complaint with the Dortmund public prosecutor's office. Local police in Unna have opened an investigation into violations of the Animal Welfare Act. TikToker Carsten Stahl has also offered a reward to assist in finding those responsible.
