PETA proposes Chicken Empathy Museum in former Fleetwood KFC

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has submitted a formal offer to take over a vacant former Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet on Lord Street in Fleetwood, Lancashire. The organization plans to convert the 2,126‑square‑foot space into the world’s first “Chicken Empathy Museum,” featuring exhibits on chickens’ intelligence, emotions and social bonds, as well as displays of slaughter‑house equipment such as kill cones and shackles. The museum would also serve vegan food.

PETA’s Vice President of Vegan Projects, Dawn Carr, said the group would be “delighted to help transform a place once linked to suffering into one that inspires compassion.” Local councillor Mary Belshaw described the proposal as a “novel idea” and said she would “rather have a chicken empathy museum than another large empty property on our high street,” noting its potential to attract visitors and revitalize the town centre. The building’s ownership is currently unclear after Landwood Property Auctions sold it last summer, and PETA has been advised to locate the new owner through the UK Land Registry. Residents are divided, with some viewing the plan as a controversial but interesting attraction.
