Petaling Jaya parliamentary seat declared vacant after Lee Chean Chung resignation
The Petaling Jaya parliamentary seat has been declared vacant following the resignation of Lee Chean Chung. Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Md Nor informed the Dewan Rakyat that Lee submitted his resignation to Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul on October 2, effective immediately.
Lee’s resignation follows a decision by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to suspend his party membership for three years, effective September 30. Lee stated the suspension was a result of his outspokenness on various public issues and claimed it restricted his freedom of expression within the party. His departure ends an 18-year association with PKR.
Following his resignation, Lee has applied to join Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama). The party has welcomed him as a prospective leader, noting he will serve among its interim leaders and assist in campaign preparations for the upcoming Melaka state election, specifically focusing on strengthening party machinery in Chinese-majority areas.
