Petar Vitanov outlines Bulgarian judicial reform plans
Petar Vitanov, chairman of the Progressive Bulgaria parliamentary group, has outlined a legislative agenda focused on judicial reform in Bulgaria. Key objectives include establishing a new Supreme Judicial Council, appointing a new Prosecutor General, and restructuring the prosecution service to restore justice.
Vitanov noted that changes to the Judicial Power Act have already been made regarding the Supreme Judicial Council. Future plans for the next four years include a new Penal Code, changes to judge certification, and new regulations for the assignment of judges. He stated that his party is open to discussions with political groups committed to fighting the judicial status quo, though they have not held talks with GERB or DPS.
Additionally, Vitanov addressed allegations regarding Delyan Peevski, citing information from Maltese authorities concerning companies and flights linked to him. He also criticized the pardon of a high-profile individual, questioning the medical commission's findings used to justify the act.
