Pete Byrne, singer of Naked Eyes, dies at 74

Pete Byrne, the singer and co-founder of the 1980s synth-pop duo Naked Eyes, has died at age 74. He passed away in Los Angeles on September 14 following an acute hemorrhagic stroke. A death certificate also noted colitis as a potential contributing underlying condition.

Byrne rose to prominence in the early 1980s alongside keyboardist Rob Fisher. The duo achieved significant commercial success with hits such as their synth-pop cover of “Always Something There to Remind Me,” which reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the original track “Promises, Promises,” which peaked at No. 11.

Before forming Naked Eyes in 1982, Byrne and Fisher performed in the band Neon, which included future members of Tears for Fears. Following Fisher’s death in 1999, Byrne continued to perform and record under the Naked Eyes name, releasing albums such as “Fumbling with the Covers” and “Disguise the Limit.”
