Pete Hegseth faces calls for resignation after Iowa remarks

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is facing calls for his resignation following remarks made at the Iowa State Fair. While defending a $1.5 trillion budget request and advocating for a return to a ‘warrior ethos’ over DEI priorities, Hegseth used a transphobic slur to describe transgender individuals.

The comments have drawn condemnation from Democratic lawmakers and media figures. Senator Ed Markey described the remarks as ‘abhorrent’ and an insult to LGBTQ+ service members and veterans, asserting that transgender individuals have served the country with honor. CNN’s Jake Tapper also condemned the language, stating that the term used is ‘obviously a slur’ and calling for people to be treated with dignity.

The controversy occurs amid ongoing legal battles regarding the administration’s decision to bar transgender people from military enlistment.
