Pete Hegseth faces impeachment threats and bipartisan criticism

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is facing intense scrutiny and potential impeachment efforts from both sides of the aisle. Republican Representative Thomas Massie is pressing a resolution to impeach Hegseth, alleging violations of the War Powers Resolution regarding unauthorized military actions involving Iran, alongside other allegations of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Senator Mark Kelly has criticized Hegseth for alleged incompetence and discriminatory practices, claiming the Secretary has targeted women and people of color for leadership reductions. Outgoing Senator Thom Tillis also expressed regret over his vote to confirm Hegseth, describing him as an “actor” rather than a “manager.” Tillis argued that Hegseth has focused excessively on the aesthetics and grooming of service members at the expense of operational readiness and demonstrating necessary knowledge of the Department of Defense.
