Pete Serrano nominated by Trump for US attorney in Western Washington
President Donald Trump has nominated Pete Serrano to serve as the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington. Serrano, a Republican and founder of the conservative nonprofit Silent Majority Foundation, currently serves as the first assistant U.S. attorney and special attorney to Attorney General Todd Blanche.
The nomination follows a period of judicial instability in the region. Previously, judges appointed Roger Rogoff, a former federal prosecutor and King County judge, to the position after an interim appointment ended. However, Trump fired Rogoff one hour after his appointment, creating the vacancy that Serrano is now nominated to fill. Rogoff has filed a lawsuit claiming the dismissal violates federal law.
Serrano previously served as the interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Washington in 2025. He is expected to face significant opposition from Washington’s two Democratic U.S. senators, who have previously blocked his formal nomination for the Eastern District role.
