Peter Ajang Azi, former Plateau State Assembly Speaker, dies in Jos

Former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Peter Ajang Azi, has died in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. His family confirmed his passing on Thursday, stating that he ‘peacefully joined his Lord.’

Azi served as the Speaker of the state legislature from June 2015 to July 2018. During his tenure, he was a key figure in the administration of former Governor Simon Lalong and a member of the All Progressives Congress.

Senator Simon Lalong, who represents the Plateau South Senatorial District, described the death as a ‘painful and devastating loss’ to the state’s political community. Lalong, who also chairs the Conference of Former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly of Nigeria, noted Azi’s contributions to legislative integrity and good governance. Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family at a later date.
