Peter Bernshausen appointed Chancellor of University of Marburg

Peter Bernshausen has been appointed as the new Chancellor of Philipps-Universität Marburg, effective January 1, 2027. He succeeds Claas Cordes, who is departing to become the Chancellor of TU Berlin.

Bernshausen brings extensive administrative experience to the role, having worked at the university in various capacities between 2003 and 2024. His previous roles included leading the budgeting and controlling department and serving as a deputy chancellor. He also served as the Chancellor at TU Chemnitz starting in November 2024.

University President Prof. Dr. Thomas Nauss highlighted Bernshausen’s expertise in budget management and his experience within the Hessian administration as significant assets, particularly given the current financial challenges posed by the higher education pact. Bernshausen’s responsibilities will include ensuring sustainable and efficient infrastructure for teaching, research, and IT.
