Peter Byrne, Naked Eyes vocalist, dies at 74

Peter Byrne, the co-founder and vocalist of the British new wave duo Naked Eyes, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 74. According to an official statement from the band, Byrne passed away peacefully on September 14 following a brief illness. The specific cause of death has not been disclosed.

Byrne rose to international prominence in the early 1980s alongside keyboardist Rob Fisher. The duo is best known for their 1983 synth-pop cover of “Always Something There to Remind Me,” which reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other notable hits included “Promises, Promises,” “When the Lights Go Out,” and “(What) In the Name of Love.”

Before forming Naked Eyes in 1982, Byrne was a member of the band Neon, which included future Tears for Fears members Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Following the original lineup's split in 1984, Byrne maintained a diverse career, providing backing vocals for Stevie Wonder on the 1985 hit “Part-Time Lover,” composing for film and television, and working on projects for the Olsen twins. He also released solo material and continued to tour with Naked Eyes in later years.
