Peter Catt to retire as Dean of Brisbane following TV controversy

Peter Catt, the Dean of Brisbane, has announced his retirement from St John’s Cathedral following controversy surrounding the Stan television series ‘Turned On: Dirty Sexy Money’. In a public letter, Catt stated that his decision to allow the cathedral to participate in the program led to distress and concern within the faith community.

Catt explained that he was misled by producers, believing the program was a documentary about an influencer seeking to reconnect with her Christian faith. He noted that the aired content differed significantly from what he had envisioned and agreed to. While he intended to offer sacramental hospitality, he admitted he did not ensure sufficient protections for the cathedral.

Catt expressed regret that members of the congregation were pictured in the background of the show, though producers have reportedly agreed to retroactively blur those faces. After 20 years of ministry at the cathedral, Catt will conduct his final service on September 27, 2026.
