Legendary Canadian voice actor Peter Cullen has died at the age of 85. He passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family, according to a statement from his representative, Kevin Motley.

Cullen was most widely recognized for his iconic portrayal of Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots in the ‘Transformers’ franchise. He first voiced the character in the 1984 animated series and continued the role through various animated series, video games, and the live-action film saga directed by Michael Bay, with his most recent contribution being in ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ in 2023.

Beyond ‘Transformers’, Cullen had a prolific career with over 200 credits. He was well known for voicing Eeyore in the ‘Winnie the Pooh’ franchise, KARR in ‘Knight Rider’, and providing vocal effects for the 1987 film ‘Predator’. His family has requested that his legacy be honored by serving communities with compassion, integrity, and loyalty, remembering his personal motto: ‘Be strong enough to be gentle.’
