Peter Gabriel releases new single “I Belong to the Sky” on full‑moon schedule
Peter Gabriel has issued a new track titled “I Belong to the Sky (Bright‑Side Mix)” to coincide with the June 30 strawberry/full moon. The song is part of his year‑long project to release a new piece on each full moon, drawing from material originally considered for his 2023 album i/o.
The track appears in two versions: a Bright‑Side mix by Mark “Spike” Stent and a Dark‑Side mix by Tchad Blake. Its accompanying artwork, “Nimbus de Toekomst 1, 2019” by Berndnaut Smilde, was chosen by Gabriel, who said the image reflects the song’s theme of merging interior and exterior worlds. He added that reality is “malleable” and that visualizing desired outcomes can help bring them into being.
“I Belong to the Sky” is released digitally ahead of the forthcoming album o\i, which Gabriel plans to complete by the end of 2026. In related remarks, he highlighted upcoming technological shifts—artificial intelligence, quantum computing and brain‑computer interfaces—as forces shaping the future, a motif that runs through the new album’s concept.
