Peter Hermann: Profile of actor and husband to Mariska Hargitay

Actor Peter Hermann has been married to Mariska Hargitay, known for her long-running role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, for more than two decades. Hermann, who was born in New York City to German parents, spent his first decade living in Germany before returning to the United States at age 10.

A Yale University graduate who majored in English, Hermann worked with Teach for America and as a fact-checker for Vanity Fair before establishing a career in acting. He has nearly 50 acting credits across film and television, including roles in Younger and appearances alongside his wife.

Beyond his acting career, Hermann has supported Hargitay in her philanthropic work with the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization she founded to assist survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. The couple has recently appeared together at various high-profile events, including the Creative Arts Emmys and Hargitay’s Broadway debut in Every Brilliant Thing.
