Peter Hujar’s Day film explores photographer’s daily life

The film ‘Peter Hujar’s Day’, directed by Ira Sachs, is now showing in Dutch cinemas. The movie is based on a rediscovered transcript from 1974, in which photographer Peter Hujar detailed his daily activities to writer Linda Rosenkrantz.

Originally intended for a book project by Rosenkrantz that was never completed, the transcript was found in 2019 and serves as the foundation for the film. The narrative explores the intimacy of Hujar’s mundane routines and his interactions with notable figures of the era, such as Susan Sontag and Allen Ginsberg.

The film stars Ben Whishaw as Hujar and Rebecca Hall as Rosenkrantz. It reflects Sachs’ cinematic focus on capturing the small, often overlooked fragments of human life and history.
