Peter Jackson announces Tintin sequel and Lord of the Rings updates

Filmmaker Peter Jackson has provided significant updates on several major film projects while attending the Sitges Film Festival. Jackson confirmed that the script for a sequel to ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ has been completed and that it will be the next feature film he directs. This follows a long-standing agreement with Steven Spielberg to swap directing and producing roles between the two.

Regarding the Middle-earth franchise, Jackson shared progress on two upcoming films. ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’, directed by Andy Serkis, is nearing the end of principal photography with approximately two weeks of shooting remaining. The film is scheduled for a December 17, 2027, release.

Additionally, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Shadow of the Past’ is currently in the scriptwriting stage. The project is being written by Stephen Colbert, Philippa Boyens, and Peter McGee. These updates serve to clarify the status of the franchise following recent rumors regarding development delays.
