Peter Kay show bomb‑hoax suspect Omar Majed appears in Birmingham Crown Court

Nineteen‑year‑old Omar Majed appeared via video‑link from HMP Brinsford at Birmingham Crown Court before Judge Andrew Smith KC. He was charged with communicating false information to police under the Criminal Law Act after a report of a suspicious bag forced the evacuation and cancellation of Peter Kay’s stand‑up performance at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena on 1 May. West Midlands Police later confirmed that no suspicious device was found.

Majed, dressed in a grey prison t‑shirt and tracksuit, remained silent, nodding only to confirm his identity, before smiling, bowing and resting his head on the table during the brief hearing. A pre‑trial review has been scheduled for 30 September, with psychiatric assessments still required. An earlier hearing was cut short when Majed began removing his clothing, and a trial date of 3 November had previously been set.

The cancelled show was part of Kay’s "Better Late Than Never" national tour, with proceeds pledged to twelve cancer charities.
