Peter Kloeppel awarded German Television Award for lifetime achievement

Journalist Peter Kloeppel has been awarded the German Television Award (Deutscher Fernsehpreis) for his lifetime achievement. The announcement was made by the award's founders ahead of a gala ceremony scheduled for September 9 in Cologne.

Kloeppel, 67, is recognized as a defining figure in German television journalism. His career includes serving as RTL's first US correspondent in New York starting in 1990 and hosting the news program ‘RTL Aktuell’ for 32 years. Alongside colleague Ulrike von der Groeben, he holds a Guinness World Record for the ‘Longest Serving National Anchor Duo,’ having co-hosted 4,580 editions of the program.

In addition to his broadcasting work, Kloeppel co-founded the RTL Journalist School for TV and Multimedia in 2001, serving as its founding director. RTL Managing Director Inga Leschek described him as a ‘TV legend’ who set high standards during his tenure as chief moderator and editor-in-chief.
